“Gardens of Color” Brings Art Back to Nature

In a scene that moves beyond the boundaries of conventional exhibitions, Gardens of Color emerges as a distinctive artistic experience that reconnects art with its original source: nature. Since ancient times, nature has been humanity’s first teacher and deepest source of inspiration, a space where beauty is contemplated and meaning unfolds. Organising art events within living environments becomes not only documentation but a way of rediscovering landscape through the artist’s eye.

Set in the rose gardens of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, the exhibition moves into the open air, where colours blend with the scent of roses to form an immersive sensory experience. The artist becomes an active participant, absorbing and translating the scene onto canvas, while visitors witness art in the making and engage with creators in real time.

The exhibition brings together pioneers, established artists, second-generation practitioners and emerging talents, creating a rich visual and intellectual dialogue shaped by diverse perspectives. Khalifa Al Harassi of Art Space notes that the artist guides viewers toward multiple pathways of beauty and reflection.

Art Space is a creative institution shaping cultural creativity through mobile, interactive art experiences aimed at inspiring children and youth, developing skills, and strengthening art’s presence in the community through contemporary approaches.

The presence of artists in the rose fields is central to the experience. The gardens become a lens expressing the place’s character, amplified by creativity. Around thirty works emerge, each reflecting a distinct encounter between artist and environment.

The experience was not without challenges. The mountainous terrain of Al Jabal Al Akhdar demanded endurance from artists and organisers, yet these obstacles added depth and authenticity, ending each journey with a sense of accomplishment and the lingering scent of roses.

The exhibition design preserves the essence of the gardens by extending their presence into the festival space. Visitors meet artists, hear stories behind works, and engage in a more personal encounter with art.

Workshops accompany the exhibition, allowing participants to explore creative expression inspired by the same natural environment, becoming active participants in the artistic process alongside the artists.

The impact of Gardens of Color extends beyond aesthetics to knowledge exchange through dialogue between artists and visitors, reaffirming nature’s role in reshaping artistic perception and production.

Initially limited to oil, acrylic and watercolour, future editions aim to include dry media, inks and contemporary practices such as installation and spatial art, alongside expanded workshops and talks.

Ultimately, Gardens of Color offers a model for experiencing art as a living process, redefining the relationship between artist, nature and community, and reflecting the evolving art scene in Oman. Together, it reimagines how art is created, shared, and experienced in natural settings across communities and landscapes in meaningful and lasting ways indeed today.
